Pens
A brief history of writing pens
Pens date back to Ancient Egypt where writing instruments were used by scribes to record on papyrus. These brush pens were made from reeds as early as 5000 years ago. During the middle ages, quills were used as pens in the middle east and were eventually introduced into Europe about 2700 years ago. In the Ninetheenth and Twentith Centuries, new advancements were made to the pen, including the ball-point pen first patented in Britian in 1888 and the felt tip pen which was invented in Japan in the 1960's. Statistics show thatin 2005 the Retracatable ball-point pen was the most popular in the United States.
